We’re here to help with all of your communication needs.
SLP Assesment & Evaluation
Our process begins by gathering background information through parent and teacher input, reviewing medical and developmental history, and identifying concerns about the child’s communication. We then observes the child in natural settings, such as during class or playtime, to assess how they interact with others, express themselves, and understand language. Formal testing follows, using standardized assessments to evaluate areas such as speech sound production, vocabulary, grammar, understanding directions, and social communication skills. Depending on the child’s age and needs, the SLP may also collect informal language samples, use play-based assessments, or conduct interviews with caregivers and teachers. After analyzing the results, the SLP compiles a detailed report that highlights the child’s communication strengths and areas of concern, determines if they qualify for services, and outlines recommendations or goals for therapy. Finally, the findings are shared with the family and educational team to develop an appropriate support plan, which may include speech therapy, classroom strategies, or further evaluation if needed.
1 on 1 Treatment Sessions
In a one-on-one treatment session between our SLP and a child, the focus is on providing individualized support to help the child improve specific communication skills. The session usually begins with a brief check-in or warm-up activity to help the child feel comfortable and engaged. We then guide the child through targeted therapy activities based on their goals, which might include practicing specific speech sounds, building vocabulary, understanding and following directions, improving sentence structure, or learning how to initiate and maintain conversations. These activities are often play-based or game-like to keep the child motivated and involved, especially for younger children. The SLP uses modeling, repetition, visual supports, and positive reinforcement to teach and strengthen skills. Throughout the session, the SLP carefully monitors the child’s responses, provides feedback, and adjusts the level of difficulty as needed. At the end of the session, the SLP may review progress with the child, provide a quick summary to parents or caregivers, and offer tips or activities for practice at home. The goal of each session is to make steady, measurable progress in a supportive and engaging environment.
When conducting an IEP consultation, the goal is to collaborate with the educational team to support a student’s communication needs within the school setting. The process begins with reviewing the student’s current IEP, progress reports, and any relevant data from teachers or previous evaluations. The SLP may observe the student in the classroom or during social interactions to better understand how their speech and language skills impact learning and peer relationships. During the consultation, the SLP meets with teachers, support staff, and sometimes parents to discuss concerns, share strategies, and offer recommendations tailored to the student’s needs. This might include adjusting therapy goals, suggesting classroom accommodations, or modeling communication strategies for staff. The SLP also helps the team understand how speech and language skills relate to academic success and social development. The consultation is collaborative and solution-focused, aiming to ensure that the student receives the right support to make meaningful progress across settings.
